About
A Unified Voice for Maritime Innovation
We partner with maritime stakeholders—across industries and across party lines—to ensure the long-term sustainability of the U.S. maritime sector.
Our Mission
The Sustainable Maritime Coalition supports the maritime industry with the mission of accelerating the development and deployment of port infrastructure and alternative fuels to enable the United States to meet the IMO's industry-wide goals.
We aim to increase the accessibility and adoption of sustainable maritime fuels and related infrastructure by increasing focused attention from Congress and the executive branch.
A Note From Our Executive Director
The United States was founded as a seafaring nation and has a tremendous maritime legacy. To this day, it operates some of the largest ports in the world and has thousands of self-propelled commercial vessels, both big and small, serving as the conduit for its trade.
The United States has a pivotal role to play in the global maritime energy transition by supporting research, development, demonstration, and deployment across the federal government. There is an opportunity to have the United States lead on port modernization, produce the maritime fuels of the future, and serve as an export of ideas and fuels to meet the trends emerging in global markets.
By creating incentives and funding for fuel switching and infrastructure investment, while developing standards in line with international ones over the coming years, we have an opportunity to shape the industry here in the United States to be a global leader.
